Entry #3 The Horrors of Slanted Reporting

Slanted reporting, or biased reporting causes a lot of misinformation to be sent all across the internet. When someone inputs their own biases, directly or indirectly, it can easily shift the tone of what they are reporting. Suddenly when biases are found it can make people question the truth behind the subject, it puts credibility into question. Some biased reporting can be relatively easy to find depending on the source or author you are looking at.

When looking at any online news source it is very easy to find something that is biased or slanted towards a certain perspective. Take a look at this article by Fox News that is clearly biased. This article pokes at the "radical left" and is very clearly created to create controversy and maintain conversation on the internet. Any political article will be written with biases, that comes with the nature of politics. With article like these they are very clearly made to make the reader mad or make someone believe something different. These types of articles very clearly appeal to pathos while sounding like it appeals to logos. That is just how these political articles are, they try to sound like fact and common sense when in reality it's all emotional language to bait a certain kind of emotion out of someone, and in this case it is anger.
Slanted media is not always the easiest to find, but it doesn't have to be hard if you look closely at what the author is saying. Look at what kind of appeal they are trying to use and what it is the author is truly trying to say. Look at the deeper context around the words. This can help you differentiate between misinformation and something that is credible. So, always be on the look out for slanted or biased reporting.
